Isamu Pahoa.  Not much has been revealed about Isamu's childhood or family except that he has a grandmother that he turns to.  After high school, Isamu was lured into a life of crime by the material wealth he could quickly gain.  He rose quickly in the ranks to be the right hand man for the criminal lord, Kawafuchi.  Because of a disagreement, he lost favor with Kawafuchi to the extreme degree of being shot and left for dead atop an ancient heiau (temple).
Pineapple Man.  After being left for dead, Isamu metamorphosed into a new form resembling a cross between a hula dancer and Hawaiian feather images;  specifically, the image of Kukailimoku, the god of war.  Since the heiau he was left for dead at was actually dedicated to this god, it stands to reason that there is a connection there.  He became faster and stronger with this transformation.  His skin became thicker and his face metamorphosed to resemble a god's image in order to instill fear in his enemies.  Spikes sprang forth from his head, neck, and limbs giving him natural weapons and making it impossible for his foes to grapple with him.  The color scheme being golden and green made those who saw him call him Pineapple Man for lack of a better term.  It stuck.
Miyoko Tabata.  Miyoko is Eurasian, being half Japanese and half caucasian.  Her mother died when she was young and she was raised by her father who was a covert law enforcement agent.  He died in the line of duty around the time Miyo graduated from high school.  She decided to follow in his footsteps and was excepted into the Academy that he went to.  At the time, she and Isamu were romantically involved and she asked him to come with her.  He refused and they parted paths.  Years later, Miyo heard of Isamu's death.   After completing her training, she opted for a deep undercover position in hopes of putting Kawafuchi away for good.
Luk Fun Chun.  The origin of Luk Fun has not yet been covered.  However, we do know that he is a gun-for-hire and has a history with Miyoko.  As to the nature of that history, we don't know.  Miyo uses him in her work, much the way she uses Isamu.  Being deep undercover, she doesn't have access to the manpower in her agency, so she uses Luk and Isamu as a covert support system.  They provide back-up and do independent missions for her when she can't do them herself.
Shigeru Kawafuchi.  The crime lord of the Pacific Rim, Kawafuchi is a powerful man.  He bases his operations in Hawaii and has a vast network.  Isamu was his right hand man for years until their altercation occurred.  When Miyoko joined his organization, Kawafuchi became so impressed with her that she quickly became Isamu's replacement as his right hand.
